Figuring Out What To Watch Can Be Difficult

If you thought the best movies of 2021 were great, just wait: There are so many movies coming out in 2022 to get excited about. From Marvel blockbusters to twisty thrillers and a new horror offering from Jordan Peele, the number of must-watch movies coming to the big screen (and your streaming queue) is massive. With so many options, figuring out what to watch can be difficult, but we’re here to help you sift through the action movies, winter movies, feel-good movies, and everything in between. While release dates are subject to change, here is a rough schedule of the movies coming out in 2022 to put on your radar.

Spoiler alert: The Scream revival is on this list. In May 2020, Neve Campbell talked about the movie’s early stages and Wes Craven, the franchise’s original director, who passed away in 2015.

“I definitely had a period where I was thinking it would just be too odd to do a movie without Wes, and I wasn’t certain that I would want to do that,” Campbell told The Hollywood Reporter. “But, I think enough time has passed. I got this really, really respectful letter from the directors [Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett] of the new one. They wrote a letter honoring Wes in such a beautiful way, and they expressed that the reason they make horror movies is because of Wes and the Scream films. They also expressed how blown away they are at the idea of actually getting an opportunity to make one of them and how much they want to honor and respect Wes’s vision.… So, we’ll see. We’re just in the beginning phases of negotiations, and we’ll have to see where it goes with COVID and everything. There are a lot of things up in the air, such as when we’ll actually get to make the movie and how we can even reenter this business at the moment.”

But back to the full list. See what’s coming up, below, and mark your calendars accordingly. (Of course, keep checking back here for all the movie news you need to know.)

The 355

An action movie in which Jessica Chastain, Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger, Penélope Cruz, and Fan Bingbing team up to save the world? Sign me up. One of the coolest upcoming movies 2022 has for us.

Scream

A new killer throws on the Ghostface mask and starts wreaking havoc on Woodsboro in this highly anticipated reboot that sees Neve Campbell, David Arquette, and Courteney Cox returning to their iconic roles.

Jackass Forever

If you loved the original reality show, which documented some of the wildest stunts ever filmed, you’ll love the movie. Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O are both returning.

Marry Me

Jennifer Lopez plays a pop star whose plans to marry her famous boyfriend (Maluma) live in concert are thwarted when she catches him cheating. So she does the only logical thing: marry a man in the audience (Owen Wilson). This is one of the sweetest, most feel-good movies coming out soon.

Death on the Nile

A murder whodunit taking place aboard a cruise ship on the Nile River. Kenneth Branagh directs and stars alongside Tom Bateman, Annette Bening, Russell Brand, and Gal Gadot.

The Batman

Robert Pattinson steps into Batman’s shoes for this highly anticipated DC film. Zoë Kravitz costars as Catwoman, and Paul Dano plays the Riddler.

The Northman

Alexander Skarsgård plays the 10th-century Viking prince Amleth in this historical thriller. Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, and Anya Taylor-Joy costar.

Legally Blonde 3

Elle Woods is coming back! Reese Witherspoon will reprise her iconic role in a script cowritten by Mindy Kaling. Here’s everything we know about it.

“I’m having a great time writing it,” Kaling told E!’s Daily Pop. “It is the most corporate gig I’ve ever had so I can’t talk about it at all, but I hope we do a good job.”

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

More Marvel goodness, this time with Benedict Cumberbatch reprising his role as Dr. Stephen Strange and Elizabeth Olsen playing the Scarlet Witch (of course). Benedict Wong, Rachel McAdams, and Chiwetel Ejiofor round out the cast.

The Bob’s Burgers Movie

The Belchers are hitting the big screen for a burger-flipping good time.

John Wick: Chapter 4

We do not deserve Keanu Reeves. We also don’t deserve a fourth John Wick film—but we’re getting one, so rejoice appropriately.

Top Gun: Maverick

This one’s finally getting a release date. Tom Cruise is back as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the sequel to Top Gun, one of the movies that turned him into a massive movie star. There’s a new crop of hot-shot pilots in town, including Glen Powell and Miles Teller. Val Kilmer is also back as Iceman.

Minions: The Rise of Gru

Another origin story, this one about Gru, set in the 1970s as he dreams about becoming a supervillain.

Thor: Love and Thunder

Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman return for this Marvel epic, with Portman’s character, Jane Foster, gaining Thor-like powers as she undergoes cancer treatment.

Nope

A new horror movie from Jordan Peele starring Daniel Kaluuya, Keke Palmer, and Steven Yeun. (Peele’s previous works, Get Out and Us, were critically acclaimed.) “#NopeMovie 7.22.22 — I know y’all see the IMAX ,” Palmer wrote on Instagram teasing the project. (Here’s everything we know about it.)
